Location

Facilitation: Kristin Gschwäntner & Luis Santiago
Impulse: Mariano Domingo
More

Kristin Geschwäntner is project manager of Kultür Potsdam and chair of the Federal Association for Cultural Participation e.V., where she advocates for cultural participation and social inclusion. Kultür Potsdam, an initiative of the association Neue Kulturwege e.V., works for barrier-free access to art and culture in Potsdam. The project provides free tickets to cultural events for people with low incomes and collaborates closely with local cultural partners. The aim is to enable cultural participation regardless of financial means.

Luis Santiago is General Coordinator and socio-cultural mediator at Cultur’all a.s.b.l. in Luxembourg. With this initiative he facilitates access to cultural offerings for socially and economically disadvantaged people. Cultur’all works with social institutions, theatres, museums and festivals, thereby connecting different areas of society. An important participation tool is the Culture Pass, a programme that offers people with low incomes discounted access to cultural events. The Culture Pass creates concrete opportunities for participation and promotes inclusion, equal opportunities and a diverse society.

The conductor Mariano Domingo leads the inclusive music project Werkstatt Utopia at KulturLeben Berlin. At its centre is the Utopia Orchestra, Germany’s first inclusive symphony orchestra. People with and without disabilities make music together, united by their love of music. Mariano Domingo places particular emphasis on accessibility, inclusion and public performances to sustainably promote cultural participation and creative collaboration.

Impulse via video: Michel Vallée
(speaks English)
More

Majd Kashkash and Mariia Kara lead the project “Engaged instead of Isolated: Pathways into Volunteering for Third-Country Nationals with and without Disabilities” at KulturLeben Berlin. The project is funded by the BAMF and co-funded by the EU. They ensure that people with refugee or migration backgrounds and disabilities can participate free of charge in cultural offerings. The project also supports entry into volunteering, thereby strengthening self-confidence, social contacts and access to networks. Refugees can implement their own cultural projects, attend workshops and become active themselves. Majd Kashkash and Mariia Kara provide individual support to participants, build cooperations with Berlin organisations and ensure that all offers are accessible and easy to reach.
Michel Vallée is President of Culture pour tous in Québec, an initiative that promotes access to cultural and sporting offerings for all and supports the social and professional integration of disadvantaged people. Under his leadership, the project “Racines Plurielles” was launched, enabling intercultural encounters and connecting newly arrived people with established communities. In public libraries, artistic workshops, dialogue formats and joint activities are offered to strengthen cultural participation.

Increasing Visibility, Promoting Self-Representation

Facilitation: Anas Alhakim
More
Anas Alhakim, Software Developer at KfW Bank & Workshop Facilitator on Accessible Communication, Migration & Disability and Societal Participation. In his work he combines technical expertise with social commitment and develops digital solutions that have a lasting inclusive impact. He also works freelance, offering workshops for professionals, organisations and interested parties as well as lectures on topics such as Disability Mainstreaming, accessible communication, migration & disability and societal participation. In these he imparts practical knowledge on digital accessibility, intercultural communication and empowerment and shows how inclusive spaces – online and offline – can be created. As a wheelchair user, he is committed to using technology in a targeted way to promote positive societal change – especially in the areas of inclusion and migration.

Facilitation: Sonia Gainza (speaks English) & Daniela Billig
More
Sònia Gainza is Director of Apropa Cultura, a network that facilitates access to culture for people in socially disadvantaged situations in Barcelona and throughout Catalonia. Thanks to Apropa Cultura, people with disabilities or in vulnerable life situations can attend cultural events at heavily discounted prices. Cultural institutions reserve about two percent of their annual tickets, so that tickets often cost only a few euros. The network also offers training for staff of social institutions and cultural organisations and promotes inclusive events and tailor-made programmes such as workshops or theatre forums. Apropa Cultura is supported by public institutions such as the Generalitat de Catalunya and the City of Barcelona as well as private funders.
Daniela Billig MdA is a member of the Berlin Parliament from Pankow and has been a member of the Greens parliamentary group in the Berlin House of Representatives since 2018. She campaigns for a social, safe and liveable city characterised by transparency, sustainability, cultural participation and civic engagement. As deputy parliamentary group leader and spokesperson for culture, monument protection and ecological neighbourhood development, she works in the culture and urban development committee. Her priorities are the protection of cultural spaces and ecological neighbourhood development that combines monument protection with environmental and climate protection and promotes fair mobility and good infrastructure in the neighbourhoods. A particular concern for her is securing and further developing diverse cultural offerings throughout Berlin so that art and culture remain accessible to all.

Workshop 5

Digital Participation – Accessible Technologies in Everyday Life. Self-Determined Access to Cultural Events
Location

Facilitation: Anna Göttke & Holger Hinz
Impulse: Patrick Bozkurt
More
Anna Göttke is project manager of “Ich bin dabei! Inklusion wirkt in Berlin” at KulturLeben Berlin. Together with Holger Hinz and her team, she is working on a low-barrier app that opens up self-determined access to cultural offerings in the capital for people with disabilities. This nationwide unique project is supported by the Deutsches Hilfswerk foundation. The basis is the website barrierefrei.berlin – an inclusive culture and sports calendar developed by KulturLeben Berlin together with affected persons. The site provides information on venues and existing barriers. Anna Göttke also conducts workshops in which she raises awareness among organisers about the needs of people with disabilities, shows practical ways to achieve more inclusion in culture and strengthens exchange between cultural institutions and the target group.
Patrick Bozkurt works at KulturLeben Berlin as project assistant, inclusion expert and diversity consultant. As a wheelchair user, he brings his own perspectives, tests venues for accessibility and supports the planning of inclusive workshops. In his work he ensures that barrier information is made transparent, for example via the accessible culture and sports calendar barrierefrei.berlin.
